Houppelandes were the height of the early to mid 15th Century. They used a large amount of fabric and were very full, pulled in by a high belt, worn just under the bust. The sleeves ranged from loose sleeves, to open sleeves that trailed on the floor, often with a dagged edge.
This houppelande, in a rich dark red brocade, is based on the blue gowns seen in the French Book of the Queen, from 1410-1412, by Christine de Pisan The sleeves are lined with an ivory linen, with a crenellated dagged edge, and reach just past the knees. The collar lays out created a v at the neck opening. The gown will fit a size 20 or smaller. Modeled by a size 16 model.
